Today’s Topic: Polar T3 Syndrome

What is Polar T3 Syndrome?
-A thyroid condition that researchers believe is caused when the body adapts to extreme cold. T3 is a thyroid hormone that acts as a neurotransmitter and also regulates the body’s temperature. Caused primarily by cold, not darkness. (although darkness plays a part)

What does it look like?
-Fatigue
-Lethargy
-Sadness
-Social withdrawal
-Carb cravings
-Sleep changes
-Mood disturbance
-Forgetfulness
-Irritability

What can you do?
-Use the Light Room (in Bldg. 155, Room 101)
-See Medical if symptoms progress
-Exercise
-Become more social
